i.materialize Plugin and Design Challenge

To promote the release of their new 3D printing plug-in for SketchUp, i.materialize is sponsoring a design challenge for SketchUp users.

You can submit any kind of house or building design, as long as you use Google SketchUp to create your 3D model. There are no limitations on your design ideas.

The winners will win a full color 3D printed scale model of their design - normally a $400 service.

The ASGVIS: ICE Render-Off Contest

To go along with their new release of V-Ray for SketchUp, ASGVIS is sponsoring an ice rendering contest.

Render ice using either V-Ray for Rhino or V-Ray for SketchUp. Be creative with the type of ice you choose to include in your scene (icicles, snowflakes, glaciers, ice sculptures, ice rink, etc.). Ice does not have to be the main focus of the render, however it must be a prominent element in the scene. Judging will be based on technical merit, artistic interpretation, and photorealism.

The winning entry will receive an Apple iPod touch (Digital player, Flash 32 GB, AAC, MP3). Runners up will each receive Sony NC60 Noise Canceling Headphones.


Deadline is March 10th.

The First Annual Kids’ Digital Design Contest is a digital design competition for ages 0-15. With the help of parents, our goal is to provide a venue for kids to demonstrate, develop and reveal their capacity for creative three dimensional thinking using the digital modeling tool SketchUp (free to download, simple to learn, and amazingly difficult to put down). Our inaugural theme is: “under/over/within” and features an intertidal aquatic site. Age based judging ensures fair competition and lots of cool prizes.

Single Sheet Design Challenge

This is not specifically SketchUp-related, but may be of interest to some.

DESIGN21 is hosting a design challenge to "design an original and compelling object that can be made from a single sheet of FSC-certified plywood measuring 4-feet x 8-feet x 1-inch."

All are welcome to enter, including furniture designers and manufacturers, architects and industrial designers.

Entries should be functional designs that reveal the beauty of the wood.

Eligible entries are limited to one sheet of plywood.

Entries must be flat-pack designs, either using no hardware, or with the use of up to 20 pieces of EcoSystems: Alpha hardware. For PDF instructions and 3D files of the Alpha hardware, please visit Design Green Now.

Google 2009 Student Bridge Modeling Competition
