could you make any suggestion about situations when this plugin might be useful?
i am trying to find one, but i can't, though i guess you had an idea writing it...
When you're creating Scene Tabs, you might want to add a new Layer that is only scene in the current Scene Tab you're working in.
By default, when you add a new Layer, it becomes visible in all Scene Tabs. This means you have to go through each other Scene Tab and hide the Layers manually.
With this plugin, you can create new Layers without having to manually hide them on all other Scene Tabs.
(I actually needed this today -- and I remembered Jim had it!)
it seams to me that what you describe would be: "Add a Layer to your model which is VISIBLE (not hidden) on the current Page (Scene), plus hidden on any OTHER (not new) pages
Would it be just as easy to deselect the layer you want to hide, then update all the scenes with the update button in the Scenes Manager.(you can select multiple scenes with the shift or ctr key) . Select Visible Layers in the Scene Update to update all the scenes and the new Layer will be invisible in all the selected Scenes.
One of the best plugin you've made, with the great "Grey scale". Essential.
Exactly what I needed for my workflow. Thanks!
You're welcome!
This plugin is incredibly useful and I use it all the time for construction drawings. I need the plugin to show the plan and section information in one or two scenes and not in others. I also use the plugin when creating construction sequencing models.
Wow this is a great plugin. I use it all the time.
I do have one question though. Is it possible to allow the layer to be visible on new Scenes? Many times I just need to hide a new layer in the currents scenes and when a scene is latter duplicated/added, keep that layer visible.
This is because of my workflow. I usually start with a full model of a structures framing with out any scenes. I start by turning off all layers. Then from the ground up I create scenes for each level. Sometimes as I'm working I need to add a hidden layer using your plugin. The problem is from then on as i work up the structure and add scenes, the layers that were added as hidden have to each be manually turned on.
I tried looking at the Ruby Script code, but don't see anything differentiating layers being hidden in current vs new scenes. I would appreciate any help, whether it be editing the plugin or a workaround that could be done in sketchup to unmark layer added using the plugin.
Thanks again for a great plugin
Great plugin! It saves me a lot of tiddius work when I have to draw a lot of scenes with layers.
Jim - I love this plug-in, recently the added hidden layers will not get added to new scenes ??
I had installed SU 2013 - and have since deleted it.
I have Reinstalled your plug-in.
Add new hidden layer> assign an object to the layer (entity info) > make the layer visible (only work in Layer0) > select Add Scene + > all of the newly created layers become unchecked (not visible) and the scene is created with out the new layers.
I have tried with new and existing documents.
It was working for several months? - until about 2 weeks ago.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Hi Jim,
Your new version of Add Hidden Layer is a wonderful thing.
Thanks for improving an old (essential) favorite!

This plugin did not work for me. I am on Sketchup 8. I got a message on the plugin window that "A newer version of Microsoft Internet Explorer is required for SKUI to function properly. My IE version is 9.0. The Microsoft update tool did not show any IE updates. What version of IE is required for this?
This plugin does not work in SketchUp Pro 2013 (13.0.4812). When you first add a layer that is hidden to other layers it works fine. However, when you save, SketchUp informs you that "something minor is messed up." After "fixing" whatever was messed up, the hidden layer that was added is now visible to all scenes.
t seams to me that what you describe would be: "Add a Layer to your model which is VISIBLE (not hidden) on the current Page (Scene), plus hidden on any OTHER (not new) pages
